Volunteer Board Member

Thank you for your interest in serving as a member of the Board of Directors of Community Mediation Services. Serving on the board is a rewarding experience and an opportunity for personal and professional growth.

CMS BOARD MEMBER RESPONSIBILITIES  

  • Serves a minimum of a one-year introduction term on the Board. Eligible to serve an additional two-year term if re-elected, after completion of the first year. A Director can not serve more than 10 consecutive years.

  • Attend at least 4 Board meetings a year, there are 6 each year. The Full Board of Directors meets the 3rd Wednesday every other month for approximately two hours. Virtual Options for attendance are available and the time of the meetings is at noon in the winter months and 4:00pm in the summer months

  • Makes a serious commitment to participate actively in Board Committee or special task work.

  • Be prepared for meetings, committee work or tasks and reviews and comments on minutes and reports. Your participation and experience are important to our success.

  • Builds a collegial working relationship with other Directors that contributes to healthy conversations, understanding and growth for the organization. 

  • Participates in Board Development and in the advancement of the strategic plan.

  • Be an Ambassador for CMS-mediation, facilitation and other forms of Conflict Resolution.

 

The Board of Directors is an entity in and of itself and is charged with the following responsibilities:

  1. Establish and review agency objectives and goals according to the approved organizational documents.

  2. Perform the work of the Board through the Board Governance Policies and other written policies of the organization.

  3. Review and approve, if appropriate, major CMS plans and programs, CMS organizational policies, and the annual operating budget of CMS.

  4. Hire and review the performance of the Executive Director in operational and financial functions.
